Overview

Prayer flags cast their mantras into the air, fluttering to the slightest icy breeze. Mighty and barren occur yellow mountains stand naked all around. Few small patches of grassland spread across in the valley. Icy, but fresh water, straight from the glaciers, flow right next to you. Majestic and peaceful gompas and monasteries stand in pride atop the barren mountains. The sky so blue; And the cotton-like clouds so white, float in the sky, kissing the snow covered peaks in the distance. No, all this is not a dream, but the land of Ladakh. You have to be there to feel it.

Nakeela Pass is the third of the five passes to be crossed while traveling from Manali to Leh. It is between Sarchu and Pang. You've got to be really careful with the wheels because of pathetic road conditions that could test the patience of even the most seasoned drivers. But you really deserve a medal if you've driven on the road. The ascent to the pass is called 21 'Gata loops'. It’s 23km ascent from 4250m to 4980m to the Nakee-la, with 21 hairpin bends. The road is said to be haunted by the ghost of a tourist who was buried here. People offer cigarettes and mineral water on the spot and then carry on with their journey. Lachulung La: Elevation 5,059 m or 16,600 ft Lāchālūng La or Lungalacha La, is a mountain pass along the Leh–Manali Highway. Leh, a high-desert city in the Himalayas, is the capital of the Leh region in northern India’s Jammu and Kashmir state. Originally a stop for trading caravans, Leh is now known for its Buddhist sites and nearby trekking areas. Massive 17th-century Leh Palace, modeled on the Dalai Lama’s former home (Tibet’s Potala Palace), overlooks the old town’s bazaar and mazelike lanes. Ladakh is a region administered by India as a union territory. Until 2019, Ladakh was a region of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. In August 2019, the Parliament of India passed an act by which Ladakh became a union territory on 31 October 2019.The largest town in Ladakh is Leh, followed by Kargil. The Leh district contains the Indus, Shyok and Nubra river valleys. The Kargil district contains the Suru, Dras and Zanskar river valleys. The main populated regions are the river valleys, but Ladakh is one of the most sparsely populated regions in India and its culture and history are closely related to that of Tibet. It is renowned for its remote mountain beauty and culture.

Day 5 | Leh
The day is at leisure and sightseeing. Post breakfast we will head for sightseeing at Leh within 100 kms.Upon our arrival at Leh, the evening will be at rest with dinner and night stay in hotel. Leh Palace The Leh Palace, also known as 'Lichen Palghar' is one of the most historically rich edifices that can be found in the country and is located in the breathtakingly beautiful town of Leh. This grand structure was built in the 17th century by King Sengge Namgyal as a royal palace, overlooking the town of Leh and the King and his family were the former residents of the majestic mansion. The Leh Palace is also one of the tallest buildings of its time with nine stories in all, and offers marvellous panoramic views of the entire town of Leh, as well as of the Stok Kangri and Zanskar mountains of the mighty Himalayan ranges, thereby giving the palace a strategic position. The palace was abandoned when Dogra forces took control of Ladakh in the mid-19th century and forced the royal family to move to Stok Palace. Magnet Hill is a "Cyclops hill" located near Leh. The layout of the area and surrounding slopes create the optical illusion of a hill. The hill road is actually a downhill road. Objects and cars on the hill road may appear to roll uphill in defiance of gravity when they are, in fact, rolling downhill. Gurudwara Pathar Sahib is a highly revered gem located 25 miles away from Leh town on Kargil Leh Highway. Devoted to Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikh Religion, the sacred place beautifully commemorates his visit to Ladakh. The pass on the Ladakh Range is north of Leh and is the gateway to the Shyok and Nubra valleys. Nubra Valley is a tri-armed valley located to the north east of Ladakh valley, in Indian-administered Kashmir. Local scholars say that its original name was Ldumra (the valley of flowers). The Shyok River meets the Nubra or Siachan River to form a large valley that separates the Ladakh and Karakoram Ranges. The Shyok river is a tributary of the Indus river.
